Colorado Rockies Draft Bulldog Junior Pitcher Chris Young
STARKVILLE, Miss. -- The Colorado Rockies tabbed a Mississippi State pitcher in Tuesday's opening day of the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft.
Junior right-hander Chris Young was selected by the Rockies in the 18th round, becoming the 531st player taken in this year's draft. Young notched a 5-2 record with a save and a 3.67 earned run average in the recently-concluded 2002 campaign. The Stow, Ohio, product was named SEC Pitcher of the Week May 20 after drawing his first career SEC start and pitching MSU to an SEC Tournament berth-clinching win over Mississippi on the final day of the regular season.
Major League teams selected 642 players in 22 rounds of the draftTuesday and conclude with the final 28 rounds Wednesday.
