STARKVILLE, Miss. – Collegiate careers have begun for five new Mississippi State football student-athletes Thursday, the first day of the summer first term semester on campus.
The five true freshmen make up the Top 25 signing class the Bulldogs unveiled in February and include: linebacker Tyler Dunning of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., linebacker Willie Gay of Starkville, defensive back Landon Guidry of Spring Hill, Tenn., running back Kylin Hill of Columbus, and defensive lineman Aaron Odom of Jackson.
Gay, the top defensive player in the state of Mississippi in the class of 2017, was rated one of the top three linebacker prospects in the country after a brilliant career at Starkville High School. Hill arrives at MSU as one of the top six running back signees in America from the class of 2017. Odom, who prepped at Callaway High School, was widely considered the top defensive line recruit in the state of Mississippi.
The five student-athletes join a school-record 13 early enrollees who will participate in summer workouts. All 13 of the early enrollees have completed a semester and spring practice.
The Bulldogs take part in SEC Media Days on July 11 and then open training camp two weeks later on July 25. MSU begins its 118th football season on Sept. 2 against Charleston Southern in Davis Wade Stadium. A game time will be announced later this summer.
