State Hosts Auburn To Wrap Up 2010 Home Slate
A trio of Bulldog veterans (junior outside hitter Kellye Jordan, senior middle blocker Ashley Newsome, senior libero Kayla Woodard) and three student managers will be honored prior to the match on Senior Salute Sunday.
State (11-18, 3-15 SEC) dropped a 3-1 decision to Georgia (14-16, 5-13 SEC) Friday night. Junior Caitlin Rance registered a match-high 19 kills, raising her team-leading seasonal kills total to 375. Woodard finished with 25 digs and climbed to third among MSU’s career digs leaders with 1,385, while Newsome registered five blocks to inch closer to the Mississippi State record for career blocks. The Florence, Ala., product has piled up 397 career blocks, six behind Shauna Owens’ school-record 403 blocks.
Auburn (18-12, 9-9 SEC) rallied back from a 2-0 deficit Friday night and completed a two-match season series sweep with at 3-2 win at Alabama.
The Bulldogs conclude their 2010 volleyball schedule next Wednesday with a 4 p.m. match at Alabama.
