Muir Becomes First Team All-American For The Bulldogs
At the 2011 NCAA Outdoor Championships, Muir missed out on qualifying for the finals by a few seconds. In 2012, not only did she qualify for the finals, she earned All-American honors. Running 52.63, the junior from St. Catherine finished seventh to score two points for her team.
"I am privileged to be an All-American," a humbled and elated Muir said. "A lot of people train hard and condition to get here, and they fall short. I just feel blessed that my hard work paid off, and I made it."
Erica Bougard was the only other Friday competitor for the Maroon and White as she wrapped up heptathlon action. After finishing 10th in the long jump (18-11.25) and 21st in the javelin (97-6), the Byhalia, Miss., native was forced to withdraw from competition due to injury.
Muir's two points in the 400-meter dash placed the Lady Bulldogs in a four-way tie for 53rd behind current leader LSU (40 points). The Bulldogs were dormant on Friday, so they are still holding steady with Marcus Jackson's four points and are also in a four way tie, as they are currently 41st. Florida stands in first with 36 points.
MSU has one last event to complete before its journey in Iowa concludes. Having finished third in the 4x400-meter semifinals Tavaris Tate, Emanuel Mayers, Daundre Barnaby and James Harris secured a spot in the finals. On Saturday they will take to Drake Stadium to try and improve that finish as they race towards a National Championship.
