STARKVILLE, Miss. - After a successful trip last weekend, Mississippi State looks to keep the momentum from the Texas Relays and carry it down south for the Battle of the Bayou. The competition will be high in Baton Rouge, with host school and No. 2 ranked LSU leading an impressive field of Penn State, Connecticut, No. 7 Texas Tech, Missouri, Houston, No. 20 Iowa, and Illinois.

The Bulldogs enter Saturday's competition ranked ninth nationally and with six Top 10 performers; including Jarrett Samuels who is currently the nation's No. 1 long jumper after jumping 26-02.25 last weekend at the Texas Relays and Tavaris Tate who will make the journey south as the nation's No. 2 sprinter in the 400-mter dash. Emanuel Mayers and Marcus Jackson round out the group, as they enter the meet at No. 6 in the 400-meter hurdles and No. 7 in the high jump respectively.

MSU will also enter competition with two of the nation's elite relay teams as the 4x100-meter squad is currently third, while the 4x400-meter squad has the seventh best time of the 2012 season.

The Maroon and White women are led by Erica Bougard and Keisha Wallace, who both rank among the Top 10 this season. Bougard, who earned a No. 9 ranking in the heptathlon after the Texas Relays, is set to compete in the 400-meter dash and the 100-meter hurdles, where she will be joined by Wallace, who will be defending her No. 5 ranking in the event.

SEC Indoor Champion Favian Cowards will round out competition for the Lady Bulldogs, as she challenges for victory in the hammer throw.

Field events are scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with javelin and will end with men's hammer throw at 4 p.m.; while running events get underway at 1:45 p.m., and conclude with the 4x400m relay at 5:30.

Following the 4x400-meter relay an overall team champion for men and women will be awarded.
