MSU Athletes Medal at the NACAC Under-23 Championships

GUANAJUATO, Mexico - Three members of the Mississippi State track and field team have been in Mexico the last few days, competing at the North American, Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Championships. Of those three, two are returning back with medals.

James Harris was the highest finishing Bulldog as he competed for Team USA. Joining his fellow American teammates Chris Vaughn, Michael Preble and David Verburg, Harris ran the lead leg of the 4x400-meter relay squad. The foursome ran a gold medal winning time of 3:03.81.

Jody-Ann Muir was the second Maroon and White medalist. Competing for her native Jamaica, the senior ran 52.44 to finish third and earn a bronze medal for her efforts.

Just before capturing a gold medal with his American teammates, Harris laced up for the high jump where the junior jumped 6-6.75 to finish sixth.

Rounding out the Bulldog contingency in Mexico was Nathan Arnett who competed for the Bahamas. Arnett ran 50.71 to finish fourth in the 400-meter hurdles.

MSU track and field will continue their global competition later this week. Jarrett Samuels and Erica Bougard will be in action at the World Junior Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Samuels will take his turn in the long jump, while Bougard will partake in the heptathlon.
