All Five Freshmen Named To 2011-12 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll
STARKVILLE, Miss. - All five freshmen from Mississippi State's 2011-12 softball team made the 2011-12 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll, the league announced Thursday. The quintet of players tied Arkansas for the most by a softball program in the conference.
Erika Gaul, Swayze Hollenhead, Megan Nesbit, Ashley Phillips and Courtney Vanlandingham were five of Mississippi State's 47 student-athletes to make the list, while giving the Bulldog softball program 31 honorees since the SEC began listing first-year accolades in 2003.
To qualify for the list, each student-athlete must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport's entire NCAA Championship segment.
The 2011-12 SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2011-12 academic calendar.
