STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Mississippi State soccer team will help raise awareness about breast cancer Friday night when it hosts “Kick for the Cure” at the MSU Soccer Field as part of a 7 p.m. match against No. 7 Florida.

Admission to MSU's "Kick for the Cure" match is free. The MSU President's Commission on the Status of Women and Zeta Tau Alpha are helping organize Friday's event.

The Bulldogs enter the match looking to snap a two-game SEC losing skid after opening the year with a school-record eight-game win streak. Florida comes to campus 8-3 overall and 2-0 in the league after claiming wins against Kentucky and Vanderbilt last weekend.

Head coach Neil Macdonald’s squad fell 5-1 to Auburn on Friday before dropping a 1-0 decision to Alabama on Tuesday in a match that was postponed from Sunday due to unplayable field conditions.

MSU junior Kat Walsh continues to pace the Bulldog offense. The Birmingham, Ala., native is tied for second in the conference with six goals. She assisted on freshman Jasmine Simmons’ first-career goal against Auburn, giving her a league eighth-best 13 points on the year.

The Bulldog defense, paced by senior goalkeeper Taryn Holland, faces a UF squad that has netted 24 goals this season on 213 shots. Holland, the SEC’s active saves leader, has stopped 42 shots this year while surrendering 10 goals.

State is looking to break a history of Florida dominance in the series. The Gators have won nine of the 10 meetings against MSU. The Dawgs’ lone win came in a 1-0 decision in Starkville during the 2003 season.

Offensively, Florida has been paced by Lindsay Thompson’s six goals and Nicky Kit’s four assists. Katie Fraine has seen the majority of the minutes in net this season for UF, stopping 39 shots and allowing 10 goals.
