STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State redshirt junior goalkeeper Skylar Rosson has been named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week following her 13-save effort in the Bulldogs' 1-0 upset of No. 11 Florida on Sunday.

Rosson stopped her second-highest number of shots in a game this season as she pitched her second-straight shutout against a ranked opponent this season and the fourth overall.

"Skylar is very deserving of this honor. Her performances this weekend were outstanding," MSU coach Neil Macdonald said. "Sunday might have been the best goalkeeping performance I've seen in my time coaching at Mississippi State."

She is now tied for fifth in school history in single-season shutouts, and her seven career blank sheets are good for the third-most all-time.

Sunday's 13 saves, combined with four in a Friday night 1-0 setback to South Carolina, put her over the 100-saves mark for the second-straight season with 103.

Rosson has stopped 221 shots in her career, tying her for the third-most in Mississippi State history.

Rosson and her Bulldog teammates go for their second-straight win on Thursday when Kentucky comes to campus for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Admission to all matches at the MSU Soccer Field is free.

Sunday's upset of the Gators has made Thursday's match against Kentucky an important one in the race for one of the eight spots in the SEC Tournament. The Dawgs enter the week tied with Alabama for the final spot in the field that will play Nov. 2-6 in Orange Beach, Ala.
