McDonald, Gallagher Team Up At Pure Silk Team Championship
POWELL, Ohio - One of the most interesting tournament formats of the summer teed off Tuesday afternoon as golfers from around the nation, including Mississippi State's Ally McDonald and Mary Langdon Gallagher, participated in the Pure Silk Women's Collegiate Team Championship presented by the National Golf Coaches Association.
The Championship, played at the Wedgewood Golf and Country Club in Powell, Ohio, features 50 two-person teams collegiate teams competing in a 54-hole stroke play event. The duos will play alternate shot format on day one, best ball rules on day two and the combined score of both players for the final round.
McDonald, a Freshman All-SEC selection last season, and Gallagher shot a 6-over par 78 in Tuesday's alternate shot to sit in a tie for 19th position.
State's duo hit the links after incoming Lady Bulldog Gabi Oubre' continued her successful summer at the Optimist International Junior Golf Championships. The Mobile, Ala., native shot a 304 at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., to finish 12th for the prestigious event.
Oubre' won the Alabama Girls State Junior title in June to capture the No. 1 ranking among Alabama golfers.
