STARKVILLE, Miss. - For the second time this week, the Mississippi State men's golf team received a big recruiting boost as Haraldur Magnus of Reykjavik, Iceland, signed with the Bulldogs.

Magnus is a two-time Icelandic junior champion, winning in back-to-back years, 2008 and 2009. He also won the 2009 Icelandic Junior Masters and the 2007 Icelandic Junior Match Play Championship.

"We are happy to have Haraldur join our program, and we look for him to compete for a starting spot in the lineup," MSU golf coach Clay Homan said. "He has an excellent short game and good swing mechanics. He'll make an immediate impact for us."

Magnus owns eight tournament wins since 2008, including a win in America with rounds of 69-72 (-3) in the South Georgia Junior Shootout. He has also played in the 2008 European Junior Team Championship for Iceland.

For the past two seasons (2010-2011) Magnus owns a 71.8 scoring average, highlighted by a 66 in round two of the Sima Tournament that propelled him to a victory against 117 players.

Magnus joins recent signee Chanat Sakulpolphaisan, the No. 1 ranked junior college player, who signed with the Bulldogs on Monday and Ben Wood, No. 43 ranked player in AJGA, who signed back in November.
