STARKVILLE, Miss. - Despite a solid day from starting quarterback Tyler Russell and some unexpected (and slightly illegal) assistance from former Bulldog Anthony Dixon, the White Team wasn't able to hold off a furious second-half surge by the Maroon squad here at Mississippi State's annual Maroon-White Spring Game.

Led by Brandon Holloway's 128 rushing yards and Jeremey Chappelle's 114 yards receiving, the Maroon team scored 21 of the games final 28 points in securing the victory.

"We've had a really good spring and it was great to end it with this great crowd here. Good for the Maroon Team to get the win. It's a big deal to those guys because now they don't have to come back to the stadium and clean tomorrow," head coach Dan Mullen said. "The White Team - and any of those fans that were supporting the white team - have to be here at 10 a.m. to clean the stands."

Supporters of the White squad had a reason for optimism early, as Russell hit tight end Brandon Hill for a pair of touchdowns in the first half. Russell finished the scrimmage 13-of-24 for 179 yards and two scores. Russell, and most of the starters, played only the first half here on Saturday. But the shifty Holloway ran for 116 yards in the second half, including a 56-yarder in the fourth quarter to put the Maroon Team in control.

The White team made a late push, getting a 65-yard touchdown reception from former Bulldog and current San Francisco 49er Anthony Dixon. Dixon snuck into a white jersey and jumped onto the field at the 10 yardline to sneak past the Maroon defense.

But it was too-little, too-late for the White squad as Holloway added his second touchdown of the day with 2:31 remaining to ice the game.

The Maroon-White Spring Game drew an announced attendance of 21,000 with capacity limited due to ongoing expansion and renovation at Davis Wade Stadium.
