Cross Country Teams Races Into NCAA Regional Saturday
After a subpar performance at the SEC Championships two weeks ago, the Maroon and White runners are looking to get back on the course and headed in the right direction.
"No one likes to not achieve their goals, but it is how you respond that matters," coach Houston Franks said. "You have to learn from these things and come away with a positive. I'm looking forward to the meet and getting a chance to get back out there and redeem ourselves, because I know our athletes are capable of greater things."
Not one to make excuses, Franks does admit there have been some struggles this season for the Bulldogs.
"I hate placing blame on other things, but we have had some serious setbacks with injuries" Franks stated. "Three of our top guys have not been running, but we can't let that stop us. We just have to pick ourselves up and fill that void and our guys are learning to do that."
Franks says he is looking to junior Renee Masterson to lead the charge for the Lady Bulldogs.
"With the girls we are certainly not going into this where we thought we would be," added Franks. "But we have to dust ourselves off and respond with a great performance at regionals. Renee's had a great year and with her guidance, we have a chance of qualifying for the NCAAs."
Action at the Harry Pritchett Cross Country Course will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the men's 10K and will be followed by the women's 6K at 11:15 a.m.
