Stratton Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State junior pitcher Chris Stratton has been named to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-District VI Baseball Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).

The Tupelo, Miss., native is among 88 NCAA Division I baseball players representing 71 institutions named to the eight all-district teams. He is now eligible for Capital One Academic All-America team honors that will be announced later this month. Stratton, with a 3.81 GPA in kinesiology, is one of only two student-athletes from the Southeastern Conference selected for academic all-district team honors. South Carolina senior pitcher Mike Roth is an All-District IV selection.

Stratton (9-0, 2.19) pitched seven shutout innings and registered six strikeouts en route to his Southeastern Conference-leading ninth win Friday night at Alabama. In that game he became the 12^th different pitcher in MSU's storied baseball history to reach 100 strikeouts in a season. That elite group includes former MSU and Major League pitchers Jeff Brantley, Eric DuBose, Matt Ginter, Carlton Loewer, Paul Maholm and Gary Rath.
