2009 BankFirst Challenge - Recaps



NORTH FLORIDA 6, NORTHERN ILLNOIS 3

STARKVILLE, Miss. - North Florida pounded out 10 hits in a 6-3 season-opening victory over Northern Illinois in the opening game of the 2009 BankFirst Baseball Challenge Friday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.

The Ospreys scored twice in both the second and third innings to erase an early 1-0 deficit.

David Eldredge had the big bat for UNF, pounding out three hits and driving in four runs. Eldredge had an RBI-single in the second inning and a two-run single an inning later.

Preston Hale also had multiple hits for UNF.

Northern Illinois managed seven hits. Jordin Hood and Nick Badgley each had mltiple hits for NIU.

Ty Pryor pitched the first five innings to earn the win for UNF. Tucker Pryor completed the contest and recorded a save.

 



NORTH FLORIDA 9, NORTHERN ILLINOIS 3

STARKVILLE, Miss. - STARKVILLE, Miss. - North Florida's Ryan Puskar hit a grand slam as the Ospreys routed Northern Illinois 9-3 in a college baseball game at Dudy Noble Field Sunday afternoon.

North Florida improved to 2-1 in the BankFirst Baseball Challenge. The Ospreys were scheduled to play Mississippi State in Sunday's late game. Northern Illinois finished the three-day tournament with a 1-3 record.

North Florida broke open a scoreless game with five runs in the third inning, including Puskar's slam. Brian Wilson and Preston Hale also had multiple hits for North Florida.

The Huskies finished with 10 hits. Nick Morreale had three hits for NIU, while Justin Behm had multiple hits.

Winning pitcher John Atteo (1-0) threw a complete game. Atteo scattered those 10 hits and allowed three runs (two earned), with four strikeouts and a walk. Starting pitcher Chuck Lukanen (0-1) took the loss for NIU.
