STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State officially begins its second season under coach Aaron Gordon Wednesday as seven returnees and 19 newcomers open preseason training at the MSU Soccer Field.
Gordon’s squad opens training camp with a roster that includes six starters back from last season’s squad.
“We are excited to get started with preseason training camp and begin preparations for the 2014 season,” Gordon said. “We have a very young team with 19 newcomers, but they are a talented group who has the potential to help us immediately. They have worked hard in the weight room and in conditioning, so now we are excited to see them all on the field.”
Lone senior Shannen Jainudeen looks for a big final campaign after enjoying a stellar spring in her first full action at forward.
The squad features a pair of juniors in Shelby Jordan and Mary Kathryn Taylor, while Tiffany Huddleston, Darbi Filliben, Jamila Coner and Abby Phillips return for their second season in Maroon & White.
Three of the Bulldogs’ 19 newcomers got an early jump to their collegiate careers, as Morgan Ferrara, Ashliegh Badley and Hannah Smith enrolled in January and went through spring practices.
Ferrara and Jainudeen combined to be a formidable pair in the Spring, with the rookie netting four goals while Jainudeen struck three times. The preseason preparation also includes road exhibition games against Memphis (Aug. 13) and Alabama (Aug. 16).
