STARKVILLE, Miss. – Capping off yet another successful campaign in the classroom, the Mississippi State men’s and women’s tennis programs earned team and individual academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association for the 2013-14 season, the ITA announced Thursday.
Both squads earned ITA All-Academic Team honors by meeting the required 3.20 grade-point average during the 2013-14 academic year. The MSU men’s squad turned in an impressive 3.77 team GPA, earning the ITA laurel for the sixth-straight year and the 13th time in school history. The women’s tennis Bulldogs recorded a 3.70 team GPA, receiving the ITA award for a fifth consecutive season and 15th time overall.
The men’s GPA of 3.77 topped all MSU sports for the spring 2014 semester, while the women’s GPA of 3.70 ranked second in all sports and tops amongst all Bulldog women’s sports.
Individually, five members of the MSU men’s team were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, while four women’s student-athletes were honored. To qualify, one must hold a 3.50 GPA for the year, be a varsity letterwinner and have been enrolled at least two semesters at their present school.
On the men’s side, seniors Malte Stropp and Zach White picked up their fourth and third honor, respectively. Stropp posted a perfect 4.00 GPA this past year as a business administration major, graduating from State with a 3.97 cumulative GPA. White notched a 3.80 GPA in communication. Joining the pair are sophomore Jordan Angus (3.80 GPA in business management) and freshmen Robin Haden (3.80 GPA in business economics) and Florian Lakat (4.00 GPA in marketing).
For the women’s squad, Roseline Dion, Timea Guibe, Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran all earned the ITA Scholar-Athlete honor. Dion (kinesiology), Guibe (business administration) and Tran (finance/accounting) all held flawless 4.00 GPAs, while Perper turned in an impressive 3.80 GPA in business administration.
The ITA Scholar-Athlete honors came on the same day the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll was announced. Angus, Stropp and White earned the league honor for the men, while Dion, Perper and Tran were named for the women.
