BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A total of 43 Mississippi State student-athletes were named to the 2013-14 Southeastern Conference First-Year Honor Roll, the league office announced Friday.

MSU’s 43 honorees are tied for the sixth-most among the league’s member institutions, in the sports in which State competes.

The football team produced the most Bulldog selections with 11 while the baseball squad was right behind with 10. Mississippi State had four honorees from the men’s golf, soccer and women’s basketball programs. Men’s tennis and softball contributed a trio of picks while women’s golf and women’s tennis each added two student-athletes to the list.

Each student-athlete on the list must 1) have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship or a letter winner; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.

Mississippi State trailed only South Carolina (69), Alabama (53), Kentucky (50), Arkansas (46) and Missouri (45) on the list. The Bulldogs were tied with Ole Miss with 43 selections and MSU finished of Georgia (41), Tennessee (41), Auburn (39), Florida (36), Vanderbilt (33), Texas A&M (31) and LSU (22) in the sports in which Mississippi State competes.
