STARKVILLE, Miss. – With an already talented squad returning, the Mississippi State women’s golf team inks sophomore Haley Austin on transfer from Mercer University.
Austin, originally from McDonough, Ga., posted a 76.74 season stroke average en route to being named to the Atlantic Sun Conference All-Freshman Team, with a fourth-place finish in the season opener and two top-20 scorecards.
“We are thrilled that Haley is joining us,” MSU head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “She brings a year of collegiate golf experience and lessons. She is a great fit for our program and will be a continuation of our core values ‘DAWGS’-Discipline, Attitude, Will, Gratitude and Selfless.”
Austin had 70.6 percent of her rounds count in the seven tournaments she competed in, while turning in the second-best Bears score in the Eat A Peach Collegiate Championship and the Fighting Camel Classic.
Before her collegiate career, Austin was a two-time All-State and three-time All-Region selection at Henry County High School.
Ally McDonald of the Bulldogs will tee off as an amateur in the U.S. Women’s Open on Thursday, June 19th in Pinehurst, N.C., at Pinehurst No. 2.
