ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Following a dominant display in the first two days of the Curtis Cup Match, Team USA was able to cruise to a 13-7 victory against Team Great Britain and Ireland at St. Louis Country Club on Sunday, while Ally McDonald claimed 1.5 points on the final day.
Resuming her match from Saturday, McDonald and Mariah Stackhouse finished all-square in their foursome match. McDonald then recorded her third point of the event with a 4-and-3 win in her singles match to end the tournament undefeated at 2-0-2.
“I think I played pretty well this weekend,” McDonald said. “This has been an amazing experience. It was a blessing to have been chosen, and I just wanted to take advantage of this opportunity, make memories and play the best golf that I could.”
All-American McDonald took the lead against Annabel Dimmock by winning back-to-back holes with a par on the fifth hole and a birdie on the sixth. McDonald fired a birdie on hole nine to make the turn 2-up, and closed out the match with wins on holes 13 and 15.
Team USA needed only one point from the singles matches to regain the championship, and it only took the first match as Emma Talley of Alabama won the first singles match to give the United States its 28th win over Team GB&I. The U.S. now leads the series 28-7-3.
“I’m so proud of Ally and Team USA this weekend,” Mississippi State head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “This will be an experience that she they will never forget. Ally continues to represent Mississippi State women’s golf, our university and our state with great class. Now, she moves on to the US Open.”
McDonald will return to action in the US Women’s Open on June 17-22 in Pinehurst, North Carolina at the Pinehurst Resort.
