STARKVILLE, Miss.– For a year of great success on the course and in the classroom, Ally McDonald of the Mississippi State women’s golf team was named to the Capital One Academic All-District Women’s At-Large Team District 6 on Thursday.
Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the Capital One teams reward the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances in the classroom and in their respective sports.
“Another honor for Ally [McDonald],” fourth-year head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “The dedication she has for balancing academics and athletics is tremendous to be able to have the success she has in both. We are thrilled the College Sports Information Directors of America have recognized her in this way.”
The All-SEC selection McDonald currently boasts the lowest single-season season stroke average in school history at 71.74, while holding a 3.58 grade point average in her studies. McDonald has impressed in her third season at MSU by claiming five top-5 and eight top-10 finishes on the year, including the tournament championship in the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational back in the fall.
McDonald has been named to the Women’s Golf Coaches Association Academic All-American teams in both seasons for the Maroon and White, while also being selected to the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll last campaign.
Later this month, first-team Academic All-District honorees will advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot to be selected to the first-, second-, and third-team All-America squads.
McDonald and the Bulldogs will tee off in the NCAA Championships on May 20-23 in Tulsa, Okla., at Tulsa Country Club.
