STARKVILLE, Miss. – Looking for the same results from last year is the goal as the Mississippi State women’s golf team gets set to compete in the NCAA Central Regional for the second consecutive year as the 11th seed, with the top-8 teams from this event moving on to the NCAA Championships.

The three-day, three-round event begins Friday at the par-72, 6,200-yard Karsten Creek Golf Course in Stillwater, Okla. MSU secured its first ever NCAA Championship appearance last season with a third place finish.

“Playing the practice round today in 25 mph wind showed us how tough this course can be,” Bulldogs head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “It is a championship course that I believe we can play well. It will take patience, as pars are good here. I am excited to be here, and I hope the storms stay away.”

MSU will be joined by Southeastern Conference foes No. 4 Arkansas, No. 9 Alabama, No. 15 LSU, No. 21 Florida and top-seeded No. 3 UCLA. Rounding out the competitive field will be No. 10 Arizona, host No. 16 Oklahoma State, No. 22 North Carolina, No. 25 Ohio State, Miami (Fla.), California, Kent. State, Kansas, Texas, UNLV, Colorado, SMU, Minnesota, Harvard, Lamar, Wichita State, LIU-Brooklyn and Siena.

Brown-Lemm chooses the same lineup from the previous two tournaments, led by All-Southeastern Conference 1st Team selection Ally McDonald and All-SEC Freshman Jessica Peng. McDonald fired he lowest 54-hole score in school history with a 10-under-par 206 to win the individual crown in last season’s event.

Making their first postseason appearances will be Peng and fellow freshman Ji Eun Baik. Peng became only the second Bulldog in program history to be named to the All-Freshman lineup, as her 73.58 stroke average is the best of any freshman Bulldog all-time.

Rounding out the MSU lineup will be veterans Rica Tse and Mary Langdon Gallagher. Tse matched her career-best 18-hole score with a 69 in the final round in the tournament last season.

The Bulldogs tee off the opening round Thursday at 7:30 a.m. CST with Brown-Lemm’s squad paired with Miami and California on hole 10.
