Bulldogs Conclude Weekend Action With 11 Wins

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – After splitting action at Penn Relays and the Golden Eagle Classic on Saturday, Mississippi State track and field captured 10 wins at Southern Miss to close out the weekend.

“What a great day to be a Bulldog,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “Our athletes gave it their all. They left everything on the track, and I am proud of their efforts today.”

Peli Alzola donned two winning performances on the day with first-place times in the women’s 100-meter dash (12.33) and 200-meter dash (24.84).

Kaelin Kersh (2:31.45) and Madison Milhoan (4:46.98) tallied two more wins in the women’s 800-meter run and 1500-meter run, respectively. 

In the women’s 5000-meter run, Jodie McGuff ran an 18:22.09 to capture another win for MSU.

Distance duo Mike Clark (16.03.05) and Matt Weickert (16:13.66) finished first and second, respectively, in the men’s 5000-meter run.

Three Bulldogs finished in the top 5 in the men’s 1500-meter run as Carson Britton won the event with a speed of 4:09.87. Curtis Kelly followed in fourth at 4:15.81 and Zach Taylor finished fifth at 4:22.06.

MSU also saw four wins in field events at Marshall Bell Track and Field Complex.

Clearing a personal-best 12-06.00, Sydney Rodkey won the women’s pole vault with a mark that ranks second all-time on the school’s outdoor performance list. In similar fashion, Carl Pittman garnered a personal best in the men’s pole vault, winning the event with a height of 14-00.00.

Austin Britton won the men’s javelin, throwing 201-09.00, while teammates Zach Taylor (145-06.00) and JaQuarius Wilson (138-05.00) finished third and fourth, respectively.

Rounding out the collection of wins by the Maroon and White was Tautvydas Kieras, who tossed a personal-best 186-05.00 in the men’s discus. He also saw a finish of second in the men’s shot put at 54-02.75.

Other top finishes included AJ Ward’s second-place mark of 23-04.50 in the men’s long jump. Wilson followed just behind him in third at 21-05.50.

Haley Reynolds finished second in the women’s shot put at 43-11.25 and third in the women’s discus with a personal-best throw of 140-01.00.

Overall, Dudley’s squad finished in the top 5 in 19 of the 20 events it competed in at the Golden Eagle Classic.

Meanwhile, other members of the team concluded action in Philadelphia, Pa., at the 120th Penn Relays. Javon Davis, Scottie Hearn, Brandon McBride and Steve Shoto turned in a time of 3:10.47 to land a spot in seventh in the college men’s 4x400-meter relay.

MSU will host its only home meet of the season, the Jace Lacoste Invitational, on May 3 as Alabama, Florida State, Missouri State, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech travel to Starkville.
