MSU Women’s Tennis Lands Four New Additions
Hailing from Great Britain, Brown will join the Bulldogs as a freshman this fall. Brown has earned quality experience playing in England and has been ranked No. 1 in the U16 UK rankings and No. 3 in the U18 rankings. In 2012, she won both the U16 Masters and U16 Winter UK Nationals. Brown was also the runner-up in the U18 UK Masters in 2013, and represented Hertfordshire County in the Junior and Adult County Cups.
Ronaldson joins the Maroon and White after competing in several international tournaments. Ronaldson, also a native of Great Britain, is ranked 566th in the Junior ITF rankings and has been ranked in the Top 10 and Top 15 of the U16 UK rankings and U18 UK rankings, respectively. While playing doubles, Ronaldson won the South/Central African Circuit in 2012, and the Stellenbosch ITF and SunDays ITF tournaments in 2013. She also represented Middlesex County in the Junior and Adult County Cups in her native England, and has competed in several countries.
“Louise and Jennifer are both talented players and highly motivated to take their games to the next level,” MSU coach Daryl Greenan said. “I believe we can help them achieve their goals, and I appreciate them believing in our vision. After meeting them I felt strongly they would not only help us reach the next level but would fit in very well to the Bulldog family. I am excited they chose Mississippi State over several other top programs, and I know they will make an immediate impact on our team.”
The Bulldogs will also have Alex Corder joining the team for the 2014-15 season. Corder, who hails from New Braunfels, Texas, is ranked 115th on Tennisrecruiting.net and is the 7th-ranked high school player in the state of Texas. She is also listed as a four-star recruit on Tennisrecruiting.net and has trained for the last five years at the John Newcombe Tennis Academy.
“Alex is a strong athlete and highly motivated to improve her game”, said Greenan. “She has made excellent progress on her game recently and her best tennis is still ahead of her. Alex is going to fit in very well and is going to benefit greatly from our program.”
Also, redshirt freshman Martina Frantova will join the active roster for the 2014-15 season. Before coming to Mississippi State, the native of Bratislava, Slovakia, notched 40 WTA Tour wins and was ranked No. 694 in the WTA doubles rankings and No. 837 in the singles rankings. Frantova has also competed in various countries across Europe, North America, and South America.
“Martina is a very talented and experienced player,” Greenan said. “I expect her to step into the top of our lineup and make an immediate impact. She has already contributed tremendously just by training with us all this past year, and I know she can't wait to represent the Bulldogs in competition. She is skilled enough to compete at the highest level of college tennis and I look forward to seeing her in our lineup."
