Player to Watch: RFr. OF Cody Brown

  • Moved to the leadoff spot last Tuesday, setting the table for a 4-0 week, hitting .375 (6-for-16) with six runs, five walks, four RBIs, three stolen bases, a double and a triple.
  • Recorded a .563 slugging percentage and a .500 OBP during the week as well.
  • Tied SEC individual season highs and set career highs with four walks and four runs April 15 in the victory against Alcorn State, while also tallying one hit, two RBIs and two stolen bases.
  • Became the Bulldog with four walks since All-American Adam Frazier in March 2012 and the first MSU player with four runs since All-American Hunter Renfroe in April 2013.
  • Tallied a career-high four hits and a triple April 19 in the win at Missouri, while also recording two singles, a double, a run, a walk and two RBIs.
  • Trailing 7-5 in the top of the ninth Sunday at Missouri, Brown ran a 4.08 home-to-first time for an infield single to lead off the inning, eventually scored on the game-tying play that sent the game to extras for an 11th-inning MSU win. Thanks to the momentum Brown gave MSU, the Bulldogs won their first game this season when trailing after eight (1-14).
  • In his last 12 starts, Brown is hitting .364 (12-for-33) with 13 runs, 12 walks, seven RBIs, five stolen bases and two doubles.
  • Mississippi State is 12-4 in his last 16 starts and 5-0 when he hits leadoff.

Player to Watch: Senior OF C.T. Bradford

  • Bradford had the most clutch week of his senior career, tallying one game-winning hit and two game-tying hits in four games total.
  • Tied at 2-2 in the series opener at Missouri April 18, Bradford drove in the game-winning run in the 11th on a single to right field, giving MSU its first SEC Friday night road win in over a year (April 12, 2013 at Texas A&M).
  • Two days later in the series finale April 20 with his team trailing 7-5 with one out in the top of the ninth, Bradford tied the game at seven with a first-pitch two-RBI single to right field, giving MSU new life in an eventual 9-7, 11-inning win.
  • Earlier in the game April 20, with MSU trailing 2-1, Bradford tied it up at 2-2 in the fourth with a first pitch RBI single to center.
  • With a runner in scoring position, in the 11th inning of a 7-7 game April 20, Missouri refused to pitch to him and intentionally walked him.
  • Bradford scored on the game-winning play later in the frame, plating the ninth and final run for the Bulldogs.
  • Clinging to a 3-2 lead in the fourth inning against Alcorn State April 15, Bradford rifled a laser from center field to throw out the game-tying run at home plate for the final out of the inning. State used the momentum from Bradford’s assist to score 13 unanswered runs the rest of the game in a 16-2 rout, and ride that momentum to MSU’s first weekend sweep on the road in SEC play in over a year.
  • For the week, Bradford hit .389, recorded a .444 slugging percentage and owned a .450 on-base percentage, going 7-for-18 with four RBIs, two walks, one double, one run and a hit by pitch.
  • Bradford ended the week on a season-long tying four-game hitting streak and is currently riding a season-high tying streak of reaching base safely in five-consecutive games
