BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following a dampened opening day, the Mississippi State women’s golf team made a great turnaround in the second round of the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Ala., on Saturday, while Ally McDonald moved into the top-25.

After an opening round score of 321, the Bulldogs improved by 20 strokes to post a 13-over-par 301 in the second round.

“Better day today,” fourth-year head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “We had some successes out there, and we worked on some things after the round. I feel we are making headway going into the postseason.”

Sporting a 2-over-par 74 second round, McDonald holds a share of 24th at 7-over-par 151 after two rounds. The All-American began her day with a par-par-birdie stretch and added two more birdies on the back nine to complete a three-shot-turnaround from Friday’s round.

Freshman Peng notched the lowest score for MSU in the second round with a 1-over-par 73 round with four birdies.  The freshman Peng tallied her four birdies with four consecutive birdies on her final holes of the day to clinch a second round that was 10-strokes better than her opening round.

Rica Tse also made great strides of improvement as she made an eight-shot-improvement from her first round with a 2-over-par 74 second round. The Auckland, New Zealand, native fired a birdie on the second hole and 14 pars for a steady performance on Saturday.

Mary Langdon Gallagher and Ji Eun Baik each have 161 36-hole scores to round out the Maroon and White lineup.

No. 13 Vanderbilt is the leader heading into the third round at 9-over-par 585. The Commodore duo of Simin Feng and Jenny Hahn are tied with Janie Jackson of Alabama for the top individual score at 1-under-par 143.

Brown-Lemm’s squad will tee off its final round Sunday at 9:10 a.m. CST paired up with in-state rivals Ole Miss on hole 10.
