STARKVILLE, Miss. – With the 2014 SEC Championship on the horizon Thursday night, the 17th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs kept busy on the recruiting trail as well, signing standouts Julian Cash and Mate Cutura, head coach Per Nilsson announced Wednesday.
“We spent a lot of time making sure we went after the right type of players for our program,” Nilsson said. “This is a perfect place for someone who wants to improve their game as much as possible.”
Hailing from Great Britain, Cash will join the Bulldogs as a freshman in the fall of 2014, adding to the stellar foundation Nilsson laid with last year’s signing class. The right-hander comes to Starkville having been one of the top juniors in the world, with his highest ranking coming at No. 68 in the world in the junior world rankings.
Cutura joins the Maroon and White as one of the top junior college players in the nation. The Croatian is currently at Tyler [TX] Junior College, where current Bulldog Tassilo Schmid spent his last two years. Cutura will come to Starkville as the top-ranked junior college player in the nation, bolstering an already stellar Bulldog lineup.
“Both Julian and Mate have had success already, but have potential to do so much more and that’s where we can help them,” Nilsson said. “We are extremely excited about them joining our program.”
