STARKVILLE, Miss. – Mississippi State and Adidas unveiled special vintage uniforms that the Bulldogs will don in the 2014 football season-opener against Southern Miss on August 30 and this Saturday’s baseball contest against rival Ole Miss.
In addition, Athletics Director Scott Stricklin announced a contract extension with Adidas as the official provider for MSU. The deal is for seven years and runs through 2020. MSU originally signed a five-year contract with Adidas in 2009.
“Adidas has gone above and beyond in their service, and we are excited about this new agreement,” said Stricklin. “They have been very loyal to us. Through their help, we have strengthened our brand. Our royalties are up about 50 percent. Adidas is a big reason for our success.”
"Our goal at Adidas is to help athletes perform better and we look forward to continuing to bring the best in performance footwear, apparel and accessories to Mississippi State and their passionate fans," said Mark Daniels, Director of Team Sports for adidas America. "We are very proud to announce our partnership extension during Super Bulldog Weekend, one of the greatest college sports experiences in the country."
MSU’s new football uniform celebrates the 100th anniversary of Scott Field with “Hail State” across the chest, the state of Mississippi patch on the back neck and “Bulldogs” as player names. The design is based on MSU’s 1990s uniform, a decade in which the Bulldogs captured the 1998 Southeastern Conference Western Division championship.
“Our partnership with Adidas has been outstanding for our program and student-athletes,” said MSU football coach Dan Mullen. “Our players will enjoy wearing this uniform to start our highly anticipated 2014 season. I think it’s appropriate that the uniform is a design similar to the classic look of our 1990s uniform that the fans love.”
The uniform features Adidas TechFit ShockWeb technology, designed to keep the Bulldogs faster, cooler and winning. The Adidas TechFit uniform is the only true compression uniform system in the industry; tighter to the body making the Bulldogs more difficult to tackle, lighter to make players faster and an increased range of motion allowing athletes to perform at the highest level.
"Our program is thrilled to continue its partnership with Adidas,” said MSU baseball coach John Cohen. “Adidas has assembled an incredible baseball staff who is at the forefront of our game. We appreciate their commitment in making Mississippi State an absolute priority."
"The highly ranked Mississippi State baseball team will debut new Adidas uniforms this weekend and showcase our lightweight adizero cleats and game-changing EQT bats," said Daniels. "Super Bulldog Weekend is the perfect example of how we partner with the Bulldogs and their athletic department on product design and creation, helping their student-athletes perform at their very best, celebrating their rich baseball tradition and getting fans and alumni excited about the action on field."
