AUSTIN, Texas – At one of the most historic track events in the country, the Mississippi State track and field team boasted top times on Thursday at Mike A. Myers Stadium to open action at the 87th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.

Sophomore Cornelia Griesche led for MSU as she turned in a personal-best time of 10:21.78 in the women’s 3000-meter steeplechase en route to breaking the school record and winning the event. Following her in third, freshman Lisa Ziegler ran a 10:25.25. Ziegler’s time landed her second on the school’s all-time outdoor performance list.

“We needed to come out and execute early, and we most definitely did that today,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “I’m really pleased with the way we started this meet, and this group is excited to continue giving strong performances throughout the weekend.”

Senior veteran John Valentine donned a ninth-place finish in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase after posting a 9:33.42 in the event.

Junior Javon Davis clocked a 52.02 to finish second in his heat of the University men’s 400-meter hurdles prelims. His time placed him fifth overall and advanced him to tomorrow’s event finals set for 7 p.m.

The MSU women’s 4x800-meter relay team posted a time of 8:49.30 to garner a third-place finish. The quartet consisted of Ocian Archer, Rhianwedd Price, Katie Huston and Emma Neigel.

For the men, the foursome of Damian Roszko, Patrick Monaghan, Juan Sanchez and Scottie Hearn earned a spot in eighth in the men’s 4x800-meter relay with a time of 7:38.25.

Competition will continue tomorrow at the University of Texas as the Bulldogs see action in seven events on Friday.
