MSU Women’s Tennis Set To Host No. 26 Ole Miss Sunday
This will be the 56th meeting all-time between the teams.
Mississippi State (9-9, 1-7 SEC), ranked 75th nationally, is led by No. 66 Georgiana Patrasc, who holds a 12-3 dual match record, 5-1 in the SEC, this spring. Despite picking up their first loss of the season at Arkansas on Sunday, the State doubles tandem of Alexandra Perper and Naomi Tran are still ranked at No. 41 in the latest ITA rankings and are 4-1 in the SEC.
Ole Miss enters the contest with a 10-5 overall record, 4-4 in SEC action. The Rebels’ most recent outing was a victory at LSU last Sunday. Ole Miss is led by the 76th-ranked doubles tandem of Zalina Khairudinova and Julia Jones, who are off to a 13-3 overall start. The Rebels do not have any singles players ranked, but Jones currently holds a 9-5 dual match record and is 4-4 in the SEC. Another strong spot for Ole Miss in singles is Mai El Kamash, who is 10-3 in dual matches and 5-3 in conference play.
“I think it’s going to be a battle,” said head coach Daryl Greenan. “It’s an SEC match and every team is good in our conference. Then there’s also the rivalry between ourselves and Ole Miss of course. Our girls have been competing hard every week and I feel like they’ve been getting better. We had a little bit of a setback last week on the road and struggled to find our best play. We’re looking forward to being back home and in our own environment. I expect that our girls will put it all on the line.”
