MSU Men And Women Dominate On Day Two Of Alabama Relays

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Wins in the 400-meter hurdles and 1600-meter sprint medley relay highlighted the day for Mississippi State track and field as day two of the John Mitchell Alabama Relays concluded at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.

“We really came out there today and started this outdoor season off right,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “I’m thrilled with how many personal bests we had, and I hope the momentum from today continues into Saturday.”

In all, MSU totaled 17 top-10 performances on Friday.

Junior Ocian Archer clocked a 1:00.07 in the women’s 400-meter hurdles to win the event. Her speed was just shy of her personal-best 59.82 as she posted the highest finish of the day for the MSU women.

For the men, it was the quartet of Scottie Hearn, Marshall Nunn, Alistair Moona and Steve Shoto who dominated the competition, capturing a first-place finish in the men’s 1600-meter sprint medley relay. The foursome’s time of 3:23.37 garnered the most convincing win of the evening.

Also boasting top performances were distance runners Cornelia Griesche (4:29.26) and Emma Neigel (4:29.49). The pair finished second and third, respectively, in the women’s 1500-meter run en route to setting personal bests. Freshman Lisa Ziegler followed in 8th with a time of 4:33.39.

Donning another personal record, junior Jodie McGuff clocked a 17:24.43 to finish fifth in the women’s 5000-meter run.

In the field, standout triple jumper Ebony Brinker posted a mark of 41-04.25 for the second-best jump of the day. Meanwhile, junior Abigaill Dill garnered a personal-best 5-05.00 in the high jump to finish fourth.

Javon Davis and Hearn posted second- and third-place times, respectively, in the men’s 400-meter hurdles. Davis crossed the line in 52.14, while Hearn followed at 52.63.

Sprinter Dustin James, II earned a third-place finish in the men’s 400-meter dash with a speed of 48.19.

MSU men’s distance runners Damian Roszko (3:47.78) and Andrew Monaghan (3:51.97) also saw success on Friday. Roszko finished fourth in the men’s 1500-meter run, and Monaghan came in ninth.

As the men’s decathlon wrapped up its final five events, freshman JaQuarius Wilson found himself sixth overall with 6,201 points.

Action continues tomorrow as the Tide-hosted event gets underway at noon. The Bulldogs will see action in 12 events, and the meet is expected to conclude at 5:30 p.m.
