STARKVILLE, Miss. – Regular-season action comes to a close on Saturday as Mississippi State hosts South Carolina in a Senior Day clash at Humphrey Coliseum.
The 3 p.m. tilt will be televised by SEC TV, and tickets can be purchased at a special rate of only $5.
Seniors Colin Borchert and Tyson Cunningham will be honored before tip-off. Borchert, a native of Phoenix, Ariz., has started 49 games and has averaged 9.0 points an outing in his two years at MSU. Cunningham, a Columbus, Miss. native, has played in 71 games in three years as a Bulldog.
Mississippi State enters the matchup with a 13-17 overall record and a 3-14 mark in league play after dropping a 66-45 decision at Georgia on Wednesday. Craig Sword paces the Maroon and White with 13.2 points a game, including 21 double-figure scoring games.
The Gamecocks (11-19, 4-23) fell 72-46 against No. 1 Florida on Wednesday in their final home game of the season. Brenton Williams paces USC with a 14.8 scoring clip, while Sindarius Thornwell averages 13.3 points an outing.
MSU holds an 18-9 lead in the all-time series against South Carolina, including a 9-2 mark at The Hump. The Gamecocks have not won a true road game all season.
The squads met three times last season, with the Bulldogs winning 56-54 in Starkville in the conference opener and again in the SEC Tournament with a 70-59 victory in Nashville.
Following Saturday’s finale, Mississippi State will prepare for SEC Tournament action next week in Atlanta. The Bulldogs will open play in the Georgia Dome on Wednesday against Alabama, Auburn, or Vanderbilt.
