Softball Returns Home, Hosts UAB
STARKVILLE, Miss. – After a six-contest trip to the Mississippi Gulf Coast Softball Classic, Mississippi State returns home for a four-game home stand, which opens with UAB at 5 p.m. CT on Tuesday.
Tuesday will be Mardi Gras Night at the MSU Softball Stadium. Free maroon and white beads will be given out, as well as free king cake. Numerous giveaways will also be featured throughout the contest.
Weekday games this season are also home to great deals from our concession stand with $2 hot dogs and $2 popcorn.
The Bulldogs are off to the best 20-game start in program history at 19-1. The 2006 group owned the previous best mark by opening the campaign at 18-2. Mississippi State’s lone loss of the season was a 1-0 eight-inning setback with the international tie breaker rules in place to No. 12/12 Baylor on Friday night.
The Bulldogs hold a 14-3 advantage in the all-time series with the Blazers. MSU claimed the first two meetings, lost the third and then won 10-straight contests. The teams have split the last four games, but Mississippi State is 9-2 in Starkville against UAB.
Heading into Tuesday’s action against the Blazers, Mississippi State owns the Southeastern Conference’s lowest team earned-run average (0.46) and batting average against (.123) while also having the league’s most strikeouts (174).
Following Tuesday’s contest, Mississippi State begins SEC play by welcoming Kentucky to Starkville for a three-game series. The weekend set begins with a 6 p.m. Saturday game.
