State Women’s Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision At No. 23 Auburn

93rd-ranked Georgiana Patrasc picked up her second win over a ranked opponent this season, but the Bulldogs fell 6-1 to No. 23 Auburn.

AUBURN, Ala. – No. 93 Georgiana Patrasc pulled out her second win over a ranked opponent this season, but the Mississippi State women’s tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to No. 23 Auburn Sunday afternoon on the Plains.

With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 8-4 overall and 0-2 in the SEC, while AU improved to 12-2, 2-0.

The doubles scoring began with MSU’s Roseline Dion and Petra Ferancova falling 8-0 on court 3 to Auburn’s duo of Paula de Man and Michala Kucharova. The Tigers would clinch the doubles point on No. 2, as MSU’s Patrasc and Naomi Tran fell 8-4 to Jackie Kasler and Jen Pfeifler.

The Tigers would carry their momentum into singles action, as freshman Rosalinda Calderon was defeated on court 6 by Pfeifler 6-2, 6-0. The MSU senior Dion would be the next to fall, dropping her match 6-2, 6-2 on No. 3 to Tiger de Man, and Auburn would clinch the match on court 5, as Kasler defeated Tran, 6-1, 6-4.

Mississippi State did not leave empty-handed on the afternoon, as No. 93 Patrasc defeated Auburn’s No. 114 Emily Flickinger 6-3, 6-2 on court 2. Alexandra Perper and Timea Guibe also gave tremendous efforts on courts 1 and 4 despite falling 7-6 (5), 6-3 and 7-5, 1-6, 1-0(6), respectively, in their contests – Perper to Auburn’s 26th-ranked Pleun Burgmans.

"Auburn definitely outplayed us in doubles today," said head coach Daryl Greenan. "I thought our girls did a decent job in singles and we were really only a few points here and there from splitting. Georgiana played solid today and picked up another solid win over a ranked opponent."

The Bulldogs will return to action on Friday, March 7, as they host No. 12 Georgia at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre at 3 p.m. Live stats will be provided on hailstate.com.
