COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Collecting 10 points on the final day at Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium, the Mississippi State track and field team closed out the 2014 Southeastern Conference Indoor Championships by totaling 32 points for an eighth-place finish.

Senior Rochelle Farquharson’s fifth-place finish in the triple jump was the highlight of day three as she posted a personal-best mark of 42-04.00 to break the MSU indoor record (previously 40-09.25). Junior Ebony Brinker followed Farquharson in ninth with a personal-best 41-06.50, a leap that landed her second on the school’s all-time indoor performance list.

After breaking the school record at the Tyson Invitational two weeks ago, the women’s distance medley relay clocked an 11:18.63 for a third-place finish. The quartet, comprised of Erica Bougard, Katie Huston, Ocian Archer and Rhianwedd Price, had a time that was three seconds shy of its season best (11:15.34).

Sophomore Cornelia Griesche continued her success on Saturday as she posted the fastest 5000-meter run time for the MSU women. Her speed of 16:58.36 garnered her a spot in 13th in a field of 34 runners.

With their 32 total points, the Bulldogs nearly doubled their 18 points from last year’s SEC Indoors to improve three spots from their 11th-place finish in 2013.

“I’m really pleased with how our women performed this weekend,” MSU coach Steve Dudley said. “It’s important that we focus on competing against ourselves. If we keep doing our job to improve each meet, we'll be even better in the years to come.”

A 90-minute broadcast of the Championships will air on Monday, March 10 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNU.
