TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After closing out non-conference play with a four-match winning streak, the Mississippi State women’s tennis team kicked off their SEC slate on the road on Friday, falling 4-0 at No. 10 Alabama.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 8-3 on the season and 0-1 in the SEC.

Shortly after doubles action began, a rain delay would halt play for nearly an hour, until the match was moved indoors. From there, Alabama’s 35th-ranked duo of Luicelena Perez and Emily Zabor would defeat MSU’s Roseline Dion and Petra Ferancova on court 3, 8-1. The Crimson Tide then clinched the doubles point, as State’s Georgiana Patrasc and Naomi Tran dropped an 8-4 decision on No. 2.

The scoring in singles began on court 6, as Ferancova fell 6-0, 6-0 to Natalia Maynetto. After Dion fell 6-1, 6-1 to No. 67 Maya Jansen on No. 3, Alabama would clinch the match, as Tran fell 6-0, 6-3 on court 5 to Perez. Play was then suspended in the final three singles matches.

“The girls played against a very solid Alabama team today,” said assistant coach James Bryce. "Overall, the girls did a good job staying composed and playing in the moment. We need to learn how to finish and execute our opportunities, but we are looking forward to a good practice tomorrow and preparing for Auburn on Sunday."

The Bulldogs will travel to face No. 23 Auburn on Sunday at 1 p.m. AU defeated No. 32 Ole Miss 5-2 to open SEC play Friday. Live stats will be available for Sunday’s match on auburntigers.com.
