STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the second-consecutive day, Mississippi State plated double-digit runs against Mount St. Mary’s, cruising to a 10-1 victory Wednesday afternoon at Dudy Noble Field.

Senior Demarcus Henderson, redshirt junior Wes Rea and senior Brett Pirtle each tallied two RBIs. Freshman Reid Humphreys, senior Alex Detz and junior Seth Heck all drove in one run apiece. Pirtle led the team in hitting with a 3-for-5 performance, with two-hit games coming from senior Derrick Armstrong and freshman Gavin Collins. Both Armstrong and Collins recorded a game-high two runs scored.

In his first career start on the mound, right-hander Preston Brown had the best game of his career to pick up the win. The redshirt sophomore struck out a career-best seven batters in a career-long six innings of work, surrendering just one unearned run on two hits. Junior Will Cox notched his second career save with three scoreless innings. The Amory, Miss., native registered a career high for strikeouts in relief with six. Of his 35 total pitches thrown, 27 were for strikes.

Together, the duo of Brown and Cox combined to record 26 of the 27 outs via a ground ball or strikeout. Collins threw out a runner attempting to steal second for the other putout.

Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the third, the Bulldog bats plated three to take the lead. Armstrong sprinted home on a wild pitch, Collins scored on an RBI by Rea and Vickerson tapped the dish on a RBI single up the middle by Pirtle.

Armstrong led off for the second-straight inning in the fourth, and ended up being driven in by Henderson to make it 4-1 in favor of the Maroon and White.

The offensive onslaught continued with a six-run eighth thanks to five two-out RBIs and MSU batting around for the second time Wednesday. The scoring began with one out and the bases loaded, when Henderson drove in Heck on a grounder. With runners on the corners, Rea ripped a hard-hit ball to right, driving in Collins. Pirtle followed it up with an infield single to shortstop, scoring Henderson. Humphreys then pinch hit and singled down the left-field line, plating Rea all the way from second. The final two runs of the game came on RBI singles by Detz and Heck.

For the game, the Bulldogs hit .385 (5-for-13) with two outs. State now has 29 two-out RBIs on the young season, 11 of which came during the two-game tilt against The Mount.
