MONTGOMERY, Ala. The 11th-ranked Mississippi State men’s tennis Bulldogs (9-4) dropped a 4-1 decision to the No. 28 Auburn Tigers Saturday afternoon at the 2014 Blue Gray National Tennis Classic.

The loss sets up a meeting against No. 60 Princeton on Sunday to close out play at the Blue Gray Classic. The match is scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. CT.

Auburn got out in front to start the match Saturday, taking the doubles point from the Bulldogs. State did open doubles play with a 6-3 victory at the top spot from its 55th-ranked duo of Jordan Angus and Malte Stropp against AU’s Daniel Cochrane and Oliver Plaskett, giving the Bulldogs the upper hand. However, AU’s No. 60 team of Dennis Lengsfeld and Lukas Ollert downed MSU’s Florian Lakat and Tassilo Schmid on court two, 6-4, and the Tigers’ tandem of Dante Saleh and Joseph Van Dooren edged MSU’s pair of Rishab Agarwal and Zach White 6-4 on court three to clinch.

With a 1-0 lead, Auburn picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory from Ollert against MSU’s No. 52 Lakat at the No. 1 position to gain a 2-0 lead. State answered on court two, when No. 49 Stropp defeated AU’s Lengsfeld 6-3, 6-3 to put MSU on the board, down 2-1. Looking to even the score, State’s No. 115 Angus forced a third set on court three, but fell in a 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 decision to the Tigers’ No. 112 Cochrane.

The clincher for the Tigers came on court four, as Auburn’s Petar Tomic defeated MSU’s White in a tight 6-4, 6-4 match.

Following the clinch, play was suspended on court five, with AU’s No. 85 Saleh up 6-4, 5-5 against State’s Agarwal, and court six, with MSU’s Robin Haden leading 6-3, 2-6, 3-2.
