“Jackson played outstanding for us today,” Bulldog head coach Clay Homan said. “Anytime you get a 68 out of a freshman, you have to be excited about that.”
Dick, a native of Australia, sank six birdies on the day in route to his 4-under-par score.
"Today we played really well at times and posted three good rounds,” Homan said. “But counting a 78 adds up quickly. We made more birdies in round two, but we had some costly mistakes as well. Other than Houston playing exceptional, the scores are really bunched. We look forward to putting together a good round tomorrow and moving up the leaderboard.”
The Bulldogs got another steady day from senior Chad Ramey, as the Fulton, Miss., native posted a 1-under-par 71. The 4-under 140 total score has Ramey tied for fifth overall at the Bayou City Collegiate Championship.
Senior Joe Sakulpolphaisan shot even for the second round, after nailing his team-leading ninth eagle of the season. The Thailand native is tied for 31st overall heading into Sunday.
Rounding out the Maroon and White scorecard from the Houston Golf Club was senior Axel Boasson (t61st) and freshman Dalton Conn (83rd.). Boasson shot a 6-over 78 for the second round, while Conn turned in an 8-over 80.
Last season, host-club Houston finished runner-up to Texas in the BCCC. The Cougars lead the field at 19-under-par this year, nine shots better than the No. 21 Longhorns.
Wesley McClain of Houston’s 7-under-par 137 leads among individuals, only three shots better than Ramey’s 4-under-par 140.
MSU will tee off the final round at 8:30 a.m., alongside No. 14 South Florida and Rice.
