Houston, Texas – Senior Chad Ramey’s spring slate got off to a phenomenal start on Friday, after the senior wrapped up round one of the Bayou City Collegiate Championship tied for third place.

Ramey’s day ended with a bang, as he cashed in his fourth eagle of the year to close out the opening round. The Fulton, Miss., native’s 3-under 69 propelled Mississippi State (1-under 289) to seventh place, nine shots behind clubhouse-leader No. 15 Houston.

"It was one of those days where we didn’t get off to a great start and our round could have gotten away from us,” Bulldog head coach Clay Homan said. “Fortunately, we finished the back nine a little better and posted a respectable score. The course is set up relatively easy and it really gets down to how many putts you make. We can improve there for sure.”

Seniors Axel Boasson (t23rd) and Joe Sakulpolphaisan (t35th) each had productive days on the course, with Boasson shooting even for the opening round and Sakulpolphaisan turning in a 1-over-par 73 score.

Rounding out the Maroon and White from the Houston Golf Club were freshmen Jackson Dick (t56th) Dalton Conn (80th.) Dick shot a 3-over 75 for the course, while Conn turned in a 7-over 79.

Last season, host-club Houston finished runner-up to Texas in the BCCC.

Wesley McClain of Houston and Caleb Sturgeon of No. 29 South Carolina each posted a 4-under-par 68 Friday to claim first place among individuals.

MSU will tee off Saturday at 9 a.m., alongside Louisiana Tech and UTSA.
