Starkville, Miss. – Six Top-30 teams will join Mississippi State in Texas this weekend for the second-annual Bayou City Collegiate Championship, co-hosted by the University of Houston and Rice University.

The three-day event, held in Houston, Texas, from Feb. 21-23, will feature 54 holes of golf from the par-72 6,982-yard Golf Club of Houston.

In the tournament’s inaugural season, the University of Texas beat Houston by 21 strokes.

"It's always exciting to start up another season of golf,” Bulldog head coach Clay Homan said. “We look forward to competing on a great course against some great competition.  Just like everyone else, we are still knocking off some of the rust from the off-season, but the bottom line is, we have to be ready to play at a high level this weekend.

“We are starting three seniors who have a lot of tournament experience and two freshmen who have each played only one collegiate tournament in their lives.  Each time you compete you find out a little bit more about yourself.  It will be a good test for us to see where we are and what we have to do to get better."

The Bayou City field will feature some of the best talent in the nation, with No. 19 Arkansas, No. 31 Baylor, Charlotte, No. 15 Houston, Houston Baptist, Lamar, Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana Tech, New Mexico State, Rice, No. 29 South Carolina, No. 14 South Florida, No. 21 Texas and UTSA joining the Bulldogs.

Despite tying a school record, MSU finished third last time out at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational (WPMI). The Bulldogs turned in a 38-under-par 826 to tie the program’s all-time record set in 1983.

Seniors Chad Ramey, Joe Sakulpolphaisan and Axel Boasson will lead Homan’s squad in State’s spring opener, with junior Jackson Dick and freshman Dalton Conn rounding out the Maroon and White scorecard.

Ramey (T2nd) and Sakulpolphaisan (5th) each posted a Top-5 card at the WPMI.

MSU will tee off Friday at 9:45 a.m., alongside New Mexico State and Charlotte.
