STARKVILLE, Miss. – Following a thrilling victory against No. 16 Vanderbilt on Sunday, Mississippi State looks to continue its winning ways as it travels to Tuscaloosa for a Thursday night women’s basketball showdown with Alabama.

Tip at Foster Auditorium is set for 7 p.m. Fans can tune in for live audio of the game in the Golden Triangle area on WKBB-FM 100.9, in Tupelo on WXWX-FM 96.3 or via HailStateTV subscription at www.HailState.com/HSTVLive.

MSU enters the matchup with a 17-9 record and 4-8 mark in SEC play after earning a 64-62 upset of No. 16 Vanderbilt on Sunday. Martha Alwal’s bucket with 3.3 seconds remaining propelled the Bulldogs to their biggest win of the season and guaranteed the team its first winning campaign in four years.

Alwal tied her SEC career high with 23 points in the contest, while Breanna Richardson was named SEC Freshman of the Week for her 16-point performance against the Commodores.

For the year, Alwal paces MSU and is seventh in the league with 15.4 points per game. The junior is also fifth in the conference with 8.1 rebounds per outing. Kendra Grant, who is second on the squad with an 11.1 scoring clip, will look to replicate her last trip to Tuscaloosa when she netted 13 points, including the tying and go-ahead 3-pointers.

Head coach Vic Schaefer's squad has won eight of the last 10 meetings against Alabama, including five in a row in Tuscaloosa. The squads split the series last season, with the Bulldogs winning 75-51 in Starkville and the Tide earning a 63-36 win in the SEC Tournament in Duluth, Ga.

Alabama (11-14, 4-8 SEC) hosts the Bulldogs having lost four of its last five games after a 71-46 setback to Texas A&M on Sunday.

UA has three players averaging double figures this season, led by Shafontaye Myers with 14.0 points per outing. Daisha Simmons and Ashley Williams follow with 13.2 and 11.8 scoring averages, respectively.

After Thursday’s clash, the Bulldogs return home for their final two home games of the season, beginning with a rematch against archrival Ole Miss on Sunday. The tilt at Humphrey Coliseum is set for a 2 p.m. tip.
