Bracewell Takes The Bump Wednesday Vs. Memphis
Starkville, Miss. – Mississippi State redshirt senior right-handed pitcher Ben Bracewell will start Wednesday’s game against Memphis, head coach John Cohen announced Tuesday. First pitch for the non-conference tilt is 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are still available and can be purchased at HailState.com/tickets. Multiple giveaways will take place throughout the game for fans, who can also enjoy $2 hot dogs and $2 popcorn at concessions.
Following a 2-1 series win vs. projected Southern Conference champion Western Carolina in a series that almost didn’t happen, the Bulldogs move up in both the Perfect Game Top-25 (5th) and Baseball America’s rankings (7th). State remained the same in Collegiate Baseball’s Top-30 (2nd) and the USA Today Coaches’ Top-25 Poll (4th), but slipped to 7th in the NCWBA weekly rankings.
Bracewell, who picked up the win Sunday in MSU’s 7-2 win against the Catamounts, enters the game with a flawless 0.00 ERA. The righty will be opposed by Memphis southpaw Caleb Wallingford, who also earned a win this past weekend thanks to a scoreless outing.
With MSU skipper John Cohen picking up his 500th career win in Bracewell’s triumph, the sixth-year head coach will be seeing some familiar faces in the opposite dugout Wednesday. Memphis head coach Daron Schoenrock was an assistant coach at Mississippi State from 2002-04 before becoming head coach at Memphis in 2005. The Tigers’ associate head coach, Russ McNickle, was a graduate assistant coach in Starkville from 1988-90, the same three seasons MSU head coach John Cohen was an outfielder for the Bulldogs.
