TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Looking to extend the school’s record for consecutive regular season top-10 finishes to 16, the Mississippi State women’s golf team holds eighth place following Friday’s opening round of the Florida State Match-Up.

MSU challenged a course that allowed no team to shoot under par to post a score of 17-over-par 305 at Southwood Golf Course.

“Today, that critical fourth and fifth score wasn't there. There were a few impossible hole placements that, as a team, we hit it on the wrong side of the hole,” Bulldogs head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “We learned and worked hard after the round. I look for a better day tomorrow.”

Junior Rica Tse followed up her third-place finish in Athens with MSU’s best score at 2-over-par 74. The Southeastern Conference Co-Women’s Golfer of the Week fired consecutive birdies on holes three and four to post an even scorecard for her last nine holes to secure a share of 12th. The birdie on the third hole was one of two birdies on the hole all day.

All-American Ally McDonald and freshman Jessica Peng each fired 3-over-par 75 rounds on Friday to place in a tie for 23rd. Peng notched back-to-back birdies on holes 15 and 16, followed later by birdies on five and seven to finish with four birdies, most of any Bulldog.

Mary Langdon Gallagher and Ji Eun Baik rounded out the Bulldogs lineup with scores of 81 and 83,  respectively.

SEC counterparts No. 13 South Carolina and No. 39 Texas A&M are tied for the top spot at 5-over-par 293. Matilda Castren of No. 46 Florida State is the top individual after a 4-under-par 68 scorecard.

Brown-Lemm’s squad will tee off Saturday's second round at 7:30 a.m. CST on hole one with Kansas State.
