Ingram’s Walk-Off Gives Gray 3-2 Win Vs. Black
Starkville, Miss. – Mississippi State freshman first baseman Dylan Ingram hit a walk-off single Tuesday night to give Gray a narrow 3-2 victory versus Black at Dudy Noble Field. The five-inning intrasquad scrimmage was MSU’s sixth of the spring.
Ingram’s team held a 2-0 lead after two complete innings following RBI singles to right by junior catcher Cody Walker and Ingram. The home team lost the lead in the top of the fifth thanks to RBI base hits to right by freshman outfielder Joey Swinarski and senior third baseman Alex Detz.
With one out in the bottom of the fifth and the game-winning run on third, Ingram drilled a single up the middle, allowing junior infielder Seth Heck to tap the dish and end the game.
On the mound, preseason All-American Ross Mitchell started for the victors, tossing 2 2/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and zero walks allowed. Fellow southpaw Jacob Lindgren replaced Mitchell and recorded two quick outs against left-handed batters.
For Black, right-handed reliever Myles Gentry also put up a goose egg in the runs allowed column, retiring all six batters faced with one strikeout.
Opening Day at home against Hofstra is at 4 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. For more information on the event, follow the team on social media by searching for “HailStateBB” on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. All-Access coverage of the program can also be found on FanCred.
