STARKVILLE, Miss. - After coming off of a solid 6-1 season-opening win over Alabama State Sunday, the Mississippi State women’s tennis team will hit the road for the first time this season this weekend, traveling to College Station, Texas, for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

The two-day event, being hosted by Texas A&M, will begin on Saturday. The fourth-seeded Bulldogs will take on the seventh-ranked and top-seeded Aggies at 2 p.m. Other teams in the field include 68th-ranked San Jose State and DePaul, the second and third-seeded teams, respectively. Consolation and championship matches will be played on Sunday.

The winner of the Kick-Off Weekend will earn a berth to play in the ITA Division 1 National Women’s Team Indoor Championship in February.

With a good week of practice following Sunday’s win, head coach Daryl Greenan feels that his team is ready to take on the tough competition on this weekend’s slate.

“The level of competition will be very strong this weekend,” Greenan said. “It will give us a good indication of where we stand and what we need to work on before SEC play. We go into this event as the fourth seed out of four teams, but I think we are capable of an upset and I feel the girls are all looking forward to the challenge.”

Live stats will be provided for this weekend’s matches on
