STARKVILLE, Miss. – Finding as much success in the classroom as they did on the field this past season, the Mississippi State baseball team registered a composite 3.06 grade point average in the just-concluded fall semester. The fall marked the ninth time in 11 semesters under head coach John Cohen the team has produced at least a 3.00 GPA.

Three Bulldogs made the President’s Scholar List with perfect 4.00 GPAs, while another six earned Dean’s Scholar List honors for tallying GPAs of 3.50 or higher. In all, 26 players recorded a GPA of 3.00 or better.

The lone Bulldog to graduate this month was catcher Mitch Slauter, who was instrumental in MSU’s run to Omaha this past season. Graduating with a degree in criminology, the Olathe, Kansas, native started 89 career games for the Maroon and White, playing in 101 total. The SEC Academic Honor Roll member was also a member of the 2012 NCAA Tallahassee Regional All-Tournament Team.

Cohen's crew opens up its 2014 campaign on Friday, Feb. 14, as the Bulldogs begin their 124th season with a 4 p.m. lid-lifter vs. Hofstra.
