STARKVILLE, Miss. – Capping one of the most memorable years on the golf course, Mississippi State junior golfer Ally McDonald was selected to the inaugural Global Golf Post All Women’s Amateur Second Team. She is just one of eight individuals to represent the United States on the first or second team.

“It is always an honor to be recognized with such a great list of players,” McDonald said. “I continue to be blessed and look forward to start back playing next semester.”

During the 2013 calendar year, McDonald made a worldwide name for herself by shattering a records and leading the MSU golf team to the state of Mississippi’s first-ever appearance in the NCAA Championships. She first garnered national attention by winning the NCAA Central Regional hosted at the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Course in Norman, Okla., where she fired a school-record 10-under-par 206. She was subsequently named GolfWeek.com National Player of the Week.

McDonald solidified her national presence by winning the 111th North and South Women’s Amateur with a 3-and-2 victory against Cindy Feng at the famed Pinehurst No. 2. The 2012 NGCA All-American rallied to defeat the reigning NCAA National Champion Annie Park 1-up in the quarterfinals.

The Fulton, Miss., native wrapped up yet another remarkable fall with a tournament-record 9-under-par 207 to win the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational. McDonald led the Bulldogs to a dominating 21-stroke victory and the first tournament title for MSU since 2004.

State recorded a school-record 275 in the final round of the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational to finish the three-round event with a 20-under-par 844 that bettered the previous top tournament score by the 1999 squad at the Lady Seminole Invitational. The Bulldogs also improved the school record for lowest 36 hole score by three strokes

“Ally continues to perform at the highest level,” fourth-year Bulldog head coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. “She represents her university and her sport with the highest of integrity.”

McDonald currently owns a 72.92 stroke average in her career to go along with three tournament titles.

Ellen Port was named Global Golf Post named Ellen Port Women’s Amateur of the Year. The five-time USGA champion will captain the 2014 Curtis Cup team, for which McDonald could be selected to represent to represent the United States in the biennial competition between USA and Great Britain.
