Starkville, Miss. – Mississippi State men’s golf added another gem to an already stellar recruiting class with the signing of Grant Motter on Tuesday.
“Grant was the very first commitment to our 2014 signing class well over a year ago,” Coach Clay Homan said. “He was recruited by several universities around the country, but ultimately felt like Mississippi State was where he wanted to be.”
The Hattiesburg native out of Oak Grove High School brings an impressive résumé to Starkville, as he is a two-time state champion for the Warriors. Motter also lays claim to the 2012 Mississippi Junior State Amateur title, after shooting rounds of 68 and 72.
“Grant has strong fundamentals, excellent swing mechanics and his long game is about as good as you will see for a young golfer,” Homan said. “Like most young players, Grant still needs improvement in his short game, but I really believe that he has the tools to be as good of a player as he wants to be.”
The signing of Motter gives MSU its fifth signee of the 2014 class. Tim Walker, Austin Rose, Ross Bell and Taylor Bibbs signed with the Maroon and White on Wednesday.’
“Today’s signing caps off a terrific class for our program,” Homan said. “I am confident that we will see great things from this group.”
Motter also becomes the third Mississippian in Homan’s 2014 class.
The Bulldogs will tee off the spring slate in Houston, Texas, for the Bayou City Collegiate Championship on Feb. 21.
