STARKVILLE, Miss. – Fresh off a thrilling season-opening road win at Houston, the Mississippi State women’s basketball team opens the home slate Wednesday as it hosts Jackson State in a 7 p.m. tip at Humphrey Coliseum.

Admission to the game is $5 for adults and free for children high school age and under.

Prior to the game, Mississippi State will host its first Bully’s Kidz Kourt on the Mize Pavilion practice courts.

Bully’s Kidz Kourt will begin an hour prior to each home game and will have inflatables, games, music and more. Children must wear tennis shoes, and the first 25 children to arrive will have the opportunity to form the tunnel for the Bulldogs’ starting lineup.

As part of Wednesday’s home opener, free pizza will also be available for MSU students while supplies last.

Fans unable to attend can listen live on WKBB-FM 100.9 and WXWX-FM 96.3, or online at www.hailstate.com/hstvlive.

Second-year head coach Vic Schaefer's squad looks to move to 2-0 on the season following a 76-68 road win at Houston last Friday. The Bulldogs used a balanced scoring attack in the victory, putting five players in double figures led by freshman Breanna Richardson’s 14 points.

Richardson’s tally was the most by a Bulldog freshman in her debut since Robin Porter opened her career with a 16-point effort to begin the 2005-06 season.

The Conyers, Ga., native scored six of her points in an early first-half 14-0 run that put MSU on top for good. Junior Kendra Grant helped State maintain the advantage, scoring 11 of her 13 points over the final 20 minutes.

Another newcomer that made an immediate impact was junior Savannah Carter. The former Trinity Valley Community College standout scored 12 points and came a rebound shy of a double-double.

Senior Katia May had a stellar start to her final campaign, dishing a career-best 11 assists while playing 38 minutes of turnover-free basketball.

Mississippi State leads the overall series against Jackson State 12-11, but Wednesday’s contest will be the first meeting between the squads since 1992.

This year’s Tiger squad is 0-2 following opening setbacks to George Washington and Howard in Washington, D.C.

Dominique Brothern leads the Tigers in scoring after tallying 12 points in each contest. Ayanna Hardy-Fuller follows with an 11-point average.

Ke’ra St. John leads Jackson State with 7.0 rebounds per game while scoring at a 10.5 clip.
